LISTEN to them talk.

The picture shown above is the interview conducted by Al Jazeera to Rodrigo Duterte. Among the three sample news station provided, I choose this interview segment . Why? First and foremost, it is all because to the way the reporters deliver their questions to the interviewee. In this segment, I noticed that delivering the questions were comprehensible, the enunciation as well as the pronunciation of the words were clear that I easily understand the words and able to catch the thought the reporters trying to ask. Maybe because, in other international news channel, the reporters were too slang in delivering the news that I can’t understand immediately what they are trying to imply. The questions ask were plain, simple, easy to comprehend and most importantly direct to the point. We all know that in conducting interview, time is of the essence, so asking questions should be precise.  Second, they provide enough time for the guest to explain well his opinion, they don’t cut him out. In communication, it is very important that we give enough time to the other person to explain fully their side for us not to misunderstand and capture the whole story the guest is trying to show. If the other one talk, the other must be silent and listen, not only to hear him out but it also shows the respect to the other person.  In addition, I noticed they study well the profile of their guest in advance. This is a very good technique in conducting an interview; the reporter should know the profile or the background of the person they are interviewing for them not to look unprepared and look silly. In addition, I am amazed by how the reporters able to cope up the situation where they received unexpected answers since it’s an interview. Getting unexpected answers is expected to happen, so reporters must be attentive and alert to able to foresee that this might happen. Overall, the interview is successfully handle and presented especially that dealing with Pres. Duterte requires higher level of professionalism since we all know how he responds to queries.
With this regard, if we connect the interview presentation to the critical thinking skills, I can say that they possess the most important skills which are complex problem solving skill. Why? It is because during the conduct of the interview the reporters already see the whole scenario and prepare the worst and complex scene that might happen. They are being realistic in doing their task. Based on research, critical thinking skills required for new decade 2020 is complex problem solving which is also no. 1 in year 2015. When we say, complex problem solving skills, it is the ability to solve novel, ill-defined problems in complex, real-world settings, the skill about being able to see the big picture as well as the details and take action to make a difference. However, this is not a skill that anyone is born with. Since it will be more technological than industrial in the future, according to some studies, playing video games will improve this type of skills. Another skill shown during the presentation which is also required for the new decade is critical thinking. It involves being able to use logic and reasoning to interrogate an issue or problem, consider various solutions to the problem, and weigh up the pros and cons of each approach, which mostly happens during an interview. Of course, in an actual set-up, human must be logical at the same time reasonable in making decisions. We should be rational and think clearly the consequences in every action and decisions we made for this will affect the directions were taking. Another skill is creativity; this is the one skill that robots will not copy from us. Being creative is a unique ability. If you are able to present something new from different thrown ideas, then you are being creative. This skill is predicted to become a key skill in the future. Being creative prevents boredom. In creativity, your imagination is your only limitation. It is good to note that each one of us wants to be unique from others, we always want was is something new, something fresh and in order to benefit from these changes we need to be creative. There are lots of skills required for the decade which complements to the developing world.
Skills evolve together with the needs and changes in the environment. it also needs to adapt and able to make difference to the person possessing it. the important thing is that these skills will be put into good used not only by his self but to everyone surrounding him as well as to the company or organization where he belong.
